Our mission is to help Dona Ana County reach our No Kill goal to eliminate the unnecessary killing of companion animals via progressive & friendly animal-welfare programs and services. Our vision is that our efforts will help transform our community to improve the quality of life for companion animals and greatly reduce the number of abandoned and homeless animals impounded and killed at our municipal shelter.
We do this by pulling at-risk animals from our municipal shelter to lower their kill rate, our P.A.W.S. (Prisoners and Animals Working Toward Success) program in partnership with the Southern NM Correctional facility to rehabilitate/train shelter dogs, running the only local pet food bank, offering low-cost vaccinations/microchips throughout the year, and working to find homeless animals new homes locally or transporting to rescue partners out of the area in partnership with our shelter. We have rescued more than 4300 animals, many slated for death at our municipal shelter, since May 2012. We usually take the animals other rescues don’t, such as cats/kittens, chihuhuas, pit bull-type and other large mixes, etc.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter is the largest animal shelter and care facility in northern New Mexico and is an open-admission, no-kill shelter. We serve more than 5,000 lost, stray, abandoned or injured animals each year. As a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we receive nearly all of our funding through private donors in our community and beyond. The shelter contracts with the city and county of Santa Fe to care for homeless and stray animals, as well as those brought through our front doors.
Shedding El Paso Rescue Dogs
We are dedicated to getting dogs out of El Paso and surrounding areas to people waiting across the country. El Paso has a surplus of adoptable dogs at El Paso Animal Services. We work in conjunction with both local and out of state rescues to move dogs from this area, where shelters and rescues are overwhelmed, to areas where there are waiting adopters. Please donate to our cause or adopt a dog from the shelter or one of our local, wonderful rescues!
Our goal is to move dogs across the country to our rescue partners in other areas. We want to do this with safety and comfort in mind. Moving from one place to another is already stressful on most animals and we don't want to add to that with crowded, unsafe, or unsanitary conditions. The idea is to move dogs often enough, and in enough style, that we will be able to make at least one trip comfortably every month. We currently move dogs from El Paso to Maine, Florida, and Arizona with several other rescue partners wanting to join our mission. The issue is always transport!! Renting and outfitting a vehicle is expensive, time consuming, and often frustrating. With our own vehicle, we can set it up safely and be done with it!

A small animal rescue located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Established in 2012, we work throughout the state of New Mexico to help rural animal shelters lower their euthanasia rates, spread animal care education, and promote overall animal well-being.
Our efforts are focused primarily on our PAWS program- click HERE to learn more- Viva! has partnered with the Valencia County Shelter and the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility to set dogs and inmates up for future success! The Prisoners and Animals Working towards Success program is the first of its kind at the CNMCF, but there are many programs like it throughout the country!
We also have efforts to provide shelter relief, promote spay and neuter within rural communities, education, networking with other rescues, and helping shelters achieve an online presence.
We are a foster-based rescue, which means we do not have a brick- and-mortar facility or location. All of our adoptable dogs reside in foster homes where they live as members of the family until they are adopted. At Viva, we are always interested in finding the best possible home for our dogs and will settle for nothing less!

The Animal Resource Center is a municipal animal shelter for the City of Rio Rancho. We receive stray pets found within Rio Rancho city limits, and surrendered pets from Rio Rancho residents. Animals are held for owners to reclaim. If we are unable to reunite a pet with their owner, the animal will become available for adoption, or we will transfer the animal to another agency that can assist in the relocation process. We make every effort to find forever homes for the animals that we take in.

Safe Haven was formed in 1996 for the purpose of providing a "no kill" shelter in Dona Ana County for unwanted dogs and cats. We are funded by donations and grants, but primarily from the hard work of our thrift store. We house roughly forty dogs and thirty cats; all of which are adoptable into the right homes. We are open to visitors by appointment. See our web page at www.shaspets.com for details and policies.

Viva! NM Rural Animal Rescue - Foster Based - FB
